The federal government’s announcement last week on rights for airline passengers is being seen as good news but the way they’re doing it is not impressing everybody.
As of July 15, Canadian passengers will be compensated for lost luggage or getting bumped from an overbooked flight.
However if your flight’s cancelled or delayed for a long period, the rules won’t change until December.
Canadian Auto Association spokesperson Kristine D’Arbelles wishes things were all happening at once. “It’s disappointing to see that the government did delay it. I wouldn’t be able to say exactly why, that is up to the government who made that decision.’
She continues, “Although if we do look at the greater picture of things, the fact we’re finally getting air passenger rights in Canada is a huge step forward and we’ll finally be on a playing level with the United States and the European Union.”
According to D’Arbelles, the CAA will keep an eye on how the new regime is enforced and make that data public.
