Another semi-truck crash along the Yellowhead Highway has resulted in a diesel spill in the North Thompson River.
Interior Health has issued a water advisory for people who draw water from the river between the crash site – which was 12 kilometres north of Vavenby near Mad Creek, to the confluence with the Clearwater River.
IH says the Vavenby community water system was not impacted, but it was shut off after the spill as a precaution.
The crash happened early this morning, and it comes after two separate semi-truck crashes resulted in diesel spills and water concerns in the Vavenby area this past winter.
The vehicle was also carrying containers of resin and resin hardener, and it’s possible that some containers were lost into the river. However, due to the individual packaging and low likelihood of a large release, the health risk caused by resin is low.
The Ministry of Environment is monitoring the situation.
