The BC Wildfire Service says it is making good progress on several small fires started this afternoon west of Kamloops.
Fire information officer Taylor MacDonald says all the blazes near Kamloops are suspected to be lightning-caused.
“We had four suspected fires but there’s actually three confirmed, which sparked up kind of around the Savona area. The largest being at Painted Bluffs Provincial Park at four-and-a-half hectares. And we’re kind of sharing resources among the three fires in the area.”
MacDonald says there are only three ground crew needed at those fires tonight along with two helicopters, and she says air tankers helped out earlier but have since finished their objectives.
Further north, lightning appears to have also caused three fires west of Little Fort, according to the BC Wildfire Service online map. All three of those fires are mapped at less than half a hectare in size.
