A former B.C. Premier and Liberal MP is speaking out about hyper partisanship and extremism leaking into politics in Canada and elsewhere.
Ujjal Dosanjh says whether it is white nationalism, anti-muslim sentiment, anti-semetism, or fundamentalist Sikh separatism there is no room for it in Canada and politicians of all stripes should be standing up against it.
“The politicians have not stood up to this as strongly and as vociferously as I would have expected them to do,” Dosanjh told Radio NL.
Even worse Dosanjh says some political parties are pandering to those very extremists.
“Some of the political parties have some of those very people of different orientations amongst them,” he said. “Not necessarily elected, some elected, but they are there.”
And if we continue on this path of hyper-partisan polarized politics?
“The end result is we will be at war with each other.”
Dosanjh says he finds the current situation “very concerning” especially with a federal election looming.
