Summer time means bicycles are out in full force and so is the RCMP’s summer bike patrol.
Kamloops RCMP, in partnership with the City of Kamloops and bylaw officers will once again be patrolling hot spots in the city.
The point of having a bike patrol is so officers can get to areas a police cruiser simply can’t.
As Corporal Jodi Shelkie explains, the police carefully pick their spots to patrol. “Each week we run the numbers for where crimes have happened in the community and from that we can keep a very current and on going initiative going where we can send resources to where we need them and that’s where these hot spots have been identified.”
Shelkie adds while their presence also acts a deterrent for possible criminal activity, that it’s not all about crime fighting.
She says the patrols are “also out there speaking to people on the street and showing children proper bicycle etiquette.”
