The Canadian Taxpayers Federation claims the federal government has lost $6.2 billion between 2013 and 2018 due to a lack of pipeline capacity, during a stop in Kamloops today.
Alberta Director Franco Terrazzano says that figure is growing by about $3.6 million each day due to government inaction.
“If we did have enough pipeline capacity to get full value for our oil between 2013 and 2023, we would have enough money to built at least six hospitals based on the cost of a St. Paul’s hospital in Metro Vancouver hospital, or you know fully fund over 26,000 new teaching positions. We would even have enough money to exempt all residents of Abbotsford and Mission from paying federal taxes for eight years.”
Terrazzano and BC Director Kris Sims were at the Canco gas station on Tranquille Road as part of their province wide tour.
“Taxpayers are looking at this right now and we’re saying hey, we’re losing out on a lot of money, We need our national economy to be united. I mean we need environmental regulations, we need good consultation, but we also need to have development going.”
Calling it a non partisan issue, Terrazzano is suggesting that people contact their MP’s and MLA’s to share their thoughts about the pipeline issue.
