After the Elephant Hill wildfire, there’s concern of the spread of noxious weeds, and if you live in the area there is some help on the way.
The TNRD Invasive Plant management committee is holding two open houses to help property owners deal with the spread of weeds.
As Coordinator Mike Dedels says Knapweed is major concern to the area. “Well in the cases of some plants, goatsbeard maybe, it’ll just cycle in and out. Things do happen happen that way sometimes, you’ll get an expansion in nature and just like animal populations and then they’ll decrease.”
He continues. “But in the case of the invaders that don’t have much competition like knapweed has over the years, then it expands and expands until it fills it’s range and causes economic impacts to ranchers.”
Invasive plants choke out food for livestock and wildlife and increase the rate soil erosion.
The open houses take place on the 15th at Pressy Lake and Loon Lake.
