The Sabiston Creek wildfire west of Savona is now being held at 200 hectares.
Fire Information Officer Marla Catherall says there will be 20 wildfire personnel at the scene today.
“The small burn operations that took place yesterday were successful and that can be seen in classification change as the Sabiston Creek has gone from out of control to being held,” she said.
“This just means that we don’t anticipate any further spread beyond the existing and predetermined boundaries.”
Catherall says the controlled burns targeted some of the small pockets of unburnt fuels between the fire edge and the control line, to prevent it from igniting at a later date.
As for if there are any planned burns today?
“Not that I’m aware of but things can change,”Catherall added. “As of right now, I don’t know of anything that’s being planned on that regard,” noting at this point, crews are expecting some rain and cooler temperatures both today and this weekend.
“It’s hard to predict when classifications will change, there’s a lot of factors that come into play, so I can’t speculate.”
The fire is a suspected human caused start, though a specific cause has yet to be determined.
