The People’s Party of Canada has named its federal candidate for the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo riding.
Ken Finlayson is a semi-retired rancher in Lac La Hache, and he claims the PPC is the “only true Conservative party.”
“I would describe myself as a right-wing politician, but I’m forever grateful for the socialists who supply a moral conscience, many many times. I come from Saskatchewan – of course, the home of Medicare – I think it’s a good thing. It’s give and take. On the other side of the spectrum, we need to figure out how to fund Medicare, and that’s where the capitalists come in. We need debate, we need a mix, thank god that we live in a country where we can do that.”
He was asked about several hot-button issues, including his stance on climate change.
“Short answer is, we don’t believe in man-made climate change. You can either accept that the climate change models are accurate – and they’re not, they’re consistently wrong – or you can go with scientific observation and conclude that man-made climate change is false.”
Meanwhile, Finlayson says he’s in support of the Trans-Mountain Pipeline. Incumbent Conservative MP Cathy McLeod and Liberals candidate Terry Lake also support the pipeline, while the NDP’s candidate Gina Myhill-Jones says she’s against the pipeline at this point.
The federal election happens on Oct. 21.
