The TNRD is looking for input over possible locations for a new eco-depot planned near Ashcroft and Cache Creek.
It’s after a planned location near Boston Flats was opposed by area residents because of concerns over smell, dust, traffic, and impacts to water and property values,
“We have three potential locations that work in terms of space and access and all of that,” said TNRD Waste Reduction Cooridinator Andrew Roebbelen. “So we want to know where, and we also want to know how people are going to use this site.”
“The residents of Cache Creek and Ashcroft receive curb side garbage collection, so the way they use the eco-depot might be different than our more rural residents, who have to drop off their general household garbage as well.”
As for why the need for a new eco-depot in the area?
“The existing transfer station is a little small if you get several people say on a weekend trying to drop off waste or drop off recycling,” Roebbelen said. “Just having more space and more diversion opportunities. Being able to take things like used oil and paint for recycling is things that they don’t have right now, and we want to be able to offer that to that entire area.”
The meetings will be at The Ashcroft Hub on June 19 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and again on June 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
In Cache Creek, residents will have the chance for their input at the Cache Creek Community Hall on June 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and again on June 20 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
