Police have taken one man into custody after an incident at a North Shore home this morning.
Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says police were called to the 200-block of Cypress Avenue to a disturbance at around 6 a.m. this morning. Police partially closed the street, and Shelkie says a man in the home, who was unarmed, refused to come outside, and Mounties negotiated with him over the phone.
Just before 8:30 a.m., the man came out of the home and was arrested without incident.
No homes were evacuated, and some neighbors were outside watering their lawns while the incident was unfolding.
Kevin Story lives in a home nearby.
“A little surprising because I’ve never really seen anything like this before where they’ve blocked off the street with what looks like SWAT team or something like, guns drawn, house surrounded, so it was definitely shocking to see that in my neighborhood.”
Story is glad the incident was resolved peacefully
“My upstairs roommate, she phoned me and was like, ‘have the cops been by this morning?’ because she wasn’t here last night,” Story added. “I’m like, ‘I don’t know’ and I didn’t know at that point until about 45 minutes later when I came outside.”
Story adds when he stepped outside, he saw an officer trying to get into the back alley through his yard.
Mounties thanked people who live in the area for their patience and understanding.
It is unclear at this point if charges will be laid in connection to the incident.
