If you’ve suffered a concussion there is a new online resource developed by the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit to help you deal with it and get back to work.
The Concussion Awareness Training Tool or CATT for Workers and Workplaces is a free resource with an e-learning course and information modules for concussion sufferers.
UBC’s Dr. Shelina Babul helped develop catt-online-dot-com and she stresses the most important thing to do after a blow to the head is take it easy. “You know, your brain is the information highway that helps you speak, walk, see, listen. So, it needs immediate rest when there’s a potential impact to the brain.”
“And then after a couple of days of physical and cognitive rest, you need slow active integration, not doing to much too fast, but just slow and progressively getting back to your activity.”
Babul says if a concussion isn’t properly treated, you’re three times more likely of getting a second and more serious one, prolonging your recovery.
