The Kamloops Thompson School District has set its new priorities for capital projects.
Unlike years previous with one list with five ranked projects Board Chair Kathleen Karpuk says the ministry this year is asking for priorities across eight different categories.
“When it comes to new schools we are asking for a school up in Pineview Valley. We are asking for a new school up in Sun Peaks. We are asking again for an expansion at Westmount Elementary, at Sahali Senior Secondary, and Brock Middle School. South Kamloops Senior Secondary is still a top priority for a replacement school.”
Karpuk says the requests are not limited to new schools, expanded schools, or schools needing replacing.
“We are asking for three new playgrounds at three of our elementary schools. We are asking for boiler upgrades. We are asking for dust collectors. We are asking for some money to deal with some of our old old school buildings that are abandoned and no longer used.”
She says rather than having one overall priority this gives the district some flexibility to potentially have multiple projects be approved and move forward on.
