
Update 2:30 p.m. –
One person is dead after a head on collision on the Trans Canada Highway in Salmon Arm this morning.
Two pick up trucks were involved, with the crash happening at the intersection of 50th Ave NW.
Cpl. Mike Halskov says the cause of the crash is unknown and nothing has been ruled out.
“The highway will remain closed while police investigate this collision,” he said. “Trans Canada East Traffic Services out of Revelstoke, RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and the BC Coroners’ Service are continuing the investigation.”
Halskov wasn’t sure if there were passengers in any of the vehicles, and he’s urging people with information and dash cam footage to come forward.
In a tweet, Drive BC notes the highway has reopened as of 2:53 p.m.

The Trans Canada Highway is closed because of a vehicle incident in Salmon Arm.
Drive BC reports the incident is at Pierres Point Road and there’s no estimated time of opening at this point.
The alert was posted just before noon today, and there are detours via Highway 97 and Highway 97B.
An update is expected at 2:30 p.m. today.
