The City of Kamloops is exploring inter-communal business licenses with neighbouring communities.
Business license inspector Dave Jones says the city wants to make business licenses less of a burden for contractors working around the region.
“So that would mean, for an example, a mobile type of business like an electrician or a carpenter, they’d come to Kamloops and make an application for a business license. And then they would have an opportunity to make an application for a second license at a reduced fee that would allow them to do operations in probably 12 or 13 other communities within the area.”
Jones says the communities involved need to decide what that business license would cost and who would be eligible. He says a similar business license is a model that already exists elsewhere in B.C.
He says something formal could come forward this summer.
