With the mandate by the province all students must submit vaccinations records when they return to school this September the Kamloops Thompson School District still has lots of questions…and few answers.
With two months to go before a new school year, Board Chair Kathleen Karpuk says the district remains in the dark about virtually every aspect of the program.
“We still don’t have any more information on how that is going to roll out. Nothing. So that’s a bit of a challenge for us because we literally have three days of school left for our elementary school kids,” said Karpuk.
“So being able to get notifications out to parents through their school children, we have a very limited amount of time if they are going to be needing additional documentation come September, which means there could be a mad scramble come September.”
She says once those questions are answered, the district can determine what extra resources and staffing are needed.
“We’d need to know what information it is that the government actually wants us to collect,” added Karpuk. “Does that mean that BC kids that have been immunized through the health offices in BC, do we need to go and direct parents to the clinics to get a vaccination record? Or does the government already have that and feel that’s enough?”
Health minister Adrian Dix has mandated that all K-12 students submit their vaccination records when returning to school in September.
