Kamloops Airport will host two Second World War bombers – a B-17 and a B-25 – next week.
The pair of aircraft will be in the city from July 1st to July 7, as part of the Flying Legends of Victory Tour organized by the Commemorative Air Force.
Airport Managing Director Ed Ratuski says it will be an exciting time for Kamloops Airport.
“Those particular aircraft, I don’t believe there is any specific significance to Kamloops, but they were significant in the efforts during World War 2,” he noted. “But for aviation enthusiasts, it’s a really interesting opportunity to get up close and possibly fly in those aircraft.”
If you want an onboard tour of the aircraft, it’ll cost you $15 per person or $25 for a family of four. Gate access to walk around the exterior of the aircraft is $2 per person or $5 for a family.
“They’ll also be offering flights on those aircraft,” Ratuski added. “I believe in 2017 when they were here, those flights actually sold out.”
Booking a flight will cost a bit more, with a trip in the B-17 bombardier/navigator seat costing US $850 and a ride in the gunner/radio seats set at US $425.
A flight in the B-25 jump seat will cost US $650, while a trip in its waist gunner seat will be US $325.
The Kamloops stop is one of only two planned in Canada this year, the other one is scheduled for Penticton.
