New staff housing that opened this year at Sun Peaks Resort has already made a big difference.
That’s according to resort Marketing Manager Aiden Kelly who says housing all of their staff is still an issue in Sun Peaks especially in the winter
On the NL morning news, Kelly says the new facility added 82 beds at a cost of $4 million.
“It’s a super nice facility and it gives us a number of beds up there so the staff housing shortage, it still exists,” he said. “In the summertime, its obviously much easier with less people and less staff required to operate all of our operations, but then we’ll get into another crunch in the winter.”
Kelly says plans are underway to build another housing building in Sun Peaks for staff as soon as possible.
“That’s because if you can’t house people, they can’t work and enjoy the mountains with us,” said Kelly.
Sun Peaks Mayor Al Raine previously told Radio NL that 82 units is really a small number, and that the resort will need three to four times that, over the next two or three years.
