RCMP in Chase are calling it a ‘rare’ seizure of stolen goods and weapons.
Mounties have made a significant bust from a property near Scotch Creek, in the 4000-block of Leopold Road, after carrying out search warrants late last month with Natural Resource Officers looking for stolen Crown timber.
Corporal Scott Linklater says that seizure included 14 stolen vehicles valued at more than $300,000 dollars. He says Crown timber was also seized but couldn’t comment on that specifically.
The vehicles seized includes dirt bikes, tractors, motorcycles, travel trailers and others, which had all been stolen between 2017 and February of 2019 from locations across the Lower Mainland and Southern Interior.
“During the search we also recovered a lot of firearms. A lot of them were found to be prohibited including a Norinco Mak-90 fully automatic rifle, a Sterling Mark 4 Sub Machine gun, a Smith and Wesson revolver with a serial number ground off, and then we actually found a firearm fitted into a small suitcase. A person holding the case by the handle could actually activate a lever that would pull the trigger and fire the gun from within,” Linklater says.
“This is a very rare opportunity for us to seize this amount of firearms and property. We determine this investigation as a success; we’ve recovered a lot of stolen property for the rightful owners and we’ve also removed a lot of illegal firearms from possibly being used in future crimes.”
Linklater says four people, three men and one woman, were arrested at the scene but were released without charge. He couldn’t comment on if the individuals were known to police, but says charges are expected to be recommended to the BC Prosecution Service.
