It’s been a vastly different year in the Cariboo when it comes to flood concerns and evacuations.
Cariboo Regional District spokesperson Emily Epp says it’s unlike last year where several residents had to be evacuated earlier in the year because of rising water levels.
“This is kind of the first major incident in the Cariboo this year so far, and with it being flooding, it’s definitely a bit less typical for this time of year,” she said.
Epp adds there were some issues with spring freshets earlier this year, but it was minor and not a lot of properties were affected.
That said, six roads southwest of Williams Lake will need repairs after washouts, including Word Creek Road and Taseko Lake Road.
Officials in the Cariboo Regional District are hoping to hear from residents in the Big Creek and Nemiah Valley affected by flooding on the Chilcotin River.
At the last update, Epp says officials had heard from 20 affected residents, but were expecting more to reach out in the coming days.
Flood warnings on two tributaries of the Chilcotin River – the Chilko River near Redstone and the Big Creek above Groundhog Creek – have been downgraded to high streamflow advisories.
The warning remains posted along the length of the Chilcotin and its other tributaries.
