The Cariboo Regional District says 120 properties along the Chilcotin River and its tributaries are impacted by flooding.
Spokesperson Emily Epp says the extent of damage varies from property to property, and work is being done to estimate how long residents will be without road access.
Among the roads affected are Witte Road, Farwell Canyon Road, and Taseko Lake Road and she says Drive BC has the latest information.
“We definitely saw a lot of road damage and washouts and the Ministry of Transportation and Forests and the road contractors are continuing to assess those and they have started work on some areas of those road washouts.”
Epp says the numbers do not include about 300 residents on the Xeni Gwet’in First Nation who are also impacted by flooding.
“There was road washouts cutting off the Xeni Gwet’in community and now there is single lane alternative traffic through their main access routes, so they have their access route back,” Epp added.
She told Radio NL there is a lot of hard work and prioritization going towards the road washouts and the subsequent repairs that have cut residents off.
The River Forecast Centre has a flood warning still in effect for the Chilcotin and its tributaries except for the Chilko River near Redstone and the Big Creek above Groundhog Creek, where high streamflow advisories are in effect.
The water is expected to keep receding slowly today and into the weekend. Water levels had peaked to one-in-200-year flood levels earlier this week.
