Screening of a documentary on the search for an young Alberta man who went missing in Sun Peaks in February, 2018 is set to be screened in Kamloops early next week.
The film is titled “Peaks and Valleys – The Search for Ryan Shtuka”. Jared Featherstone is a member of the production team. He says the film is less about the investigation and has more of a focus on the emotional side of the story.
Ryan Shtuka was just 19 when he disappeared after attending a party in Sun Peaks. His friends and family have not given up hope that the now 20 year old may be found and continue to put forth an effort to find him.
Featherstone says “the advent of social media and the internet and everything like that, it has really helped extend the life of this story. In a traditional sense, maybe 20 years ago, a missing person pops up on the news reel and you hear about it for six or seven months, but it won’t dominate headlines they way this story has for 18 months”.
The filmmakers will be collecting donations on behalf of Kamloops Search and Rescue. Featherstone says “if this can do anything around raising awareness, not only for Ryan’s story, but for other missing persons stories and helping find those missing people… focusing that into a donation for Kamloops Search and Rescue is an awesome way to do that.”
People can see the documentary at the Paramount Theatre in downtown Kamloops on Monday, July 15 at 7:00 pm.
