An Alberta man accused of stealing several vehicles in the Sicamous area is facing charges.
Shane Schultz, 47, was arrested on Saturday in possession of the keys of a stolen SUV, along with several pieces of stolen ID, a woman’s purse, and items he bought allegedly fraudulently.
Police say they responded to a theft from an unlocked vehicle at a church in Sicamous around 9 a.m, who left the scene in a black Dodge pickup. The truck was later seen at a gas station, but the driver sped off, heading east. Police did not pursue as he was driving in a dangerous manner.
That truck, which was stolen from Calgary in June, was abandoned at a campground in Malakwa, and the man was reportedly seen running towards the highway while changing his clothes.
Moments later, a resident on nearby Luoma road reported their Ford F350 which was idling was stolen. It was later found abandoned on Ward Road in Craigellachie, when another resident reported that a Honda SUV with the keys in it was stolen.
Schultz was later seen in a parking lot on Bernard Avenue in Kelowna around 6 p.m., which is when he was taken into custody. He is facing charges including possession of stolen property over $5,000, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and the theft of a Motor Vehicle.
Police say Schultz was also wanted by Calgary Police for being unlawfully at large at the time of his arrest.
