A wildfire east of Ashcroft, in the Savona area, has doubled in size since yesterday but is under control, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
Fire Information Officer Taylor MacDonald says the fire is suspected to be human caused.
“We had six BCWS personnel respond yesterday and we have ten BCWS personnel responding today,” she said. “Personnel were being supported by one helicopter yesterday on site, but it’ll just be the ground crews today.”
The fire broke out yesterday afternoon, but it is not expected to grow in size.
“It’s about 24 kilometres east of Ashcroft, adjacent to Highway 1 and 97. And the fire is visible from the highway.”
After a rainy and cooler several weeks, MacDonald says says officials are expecting some hot and dry conditions moving into the week.
“So it’s just a reminder to folks to be safe if they are going out and planning to have campfires and that sort of thing,” she noted. “Just making sure that they have the proper tools on site and that they are following all the regulations.”
