Trans Mountain pipe being unloaded from a truck
A well known anti pipeline activist was released on his own recognizance as he awaits his August trial for breaking a court ordered injunction.
The ‘protesting grandpa’, who’s real name is Terry Christenson, was arrested July 10th for trespassing at the Trans Mountain terminal in Burnaby.
It’s the 71 year old’s third arrest for protesting Trans Mountain in the past 16 months.
Sven Biggs from Stand Dot Earth says Christenson had been on a hunger strike and it’s taken it’s toll on his health. “I think his commitment to stopping the project and his concern about those indigenous rights and climate change are strong as ever.”
“I think he’s going to think long and hard before he breaks the injunction again but that’s his choice ultimately and you know he’s very passionate about this project.”
Biggs says Christenson lost about twenty pounds in the two weeks he was held and looks more his age than he’d ever seen him before.
Christenson’s trial is set for August 29th.
