Kamloops firefighters are urging people to be careful near the Thompson River after a man had to be rescued today near Rabbit Island.
Platoon Captain Wade Lindoff says the RCMP had asked firefighters for help shortly after 2 p.m., after a man in distress was seen hanging to a buoy in the middle of the river.
“We were able to make contact with the individual down river with our Boat 3 crew,” he said. “They were able to get the individual into the boat and they met up with the RCMP on the North Shore and the individual was handed over to them.”
Lindoff says river rescues can be tricky but notes this particular instance “went well”. Two KFR personnel went into the river to help with the rescue, according to Lindoff.
