The public inquiry into the deaths of eight elderly patients at the hands of serial killer nurse was released Wednesday.
While appearing on the NL Morning News, BC Care Providers Association CEO Daniel Fontaine shared his thoughts on the 91 recommendations. “They’re very good. I think some of them, pointing out around the need for additional care staff and making sure there are enough eyes and ears on the floor is absolutely critical, it’s some thing we’ve supported.”
“Now they do have a slightly different system in Ontario than we do here in British Columbia but there are definitely some potential lessons to be learned and some things we’ll be looking at in our context here in BC.”
Fontaine says some recommendations are already taking place here in BC, such as how a sudden or unexpected death is handled and how that’s reported to the coroner as well as the way coroner’s run their investigations.
He adds he doesn’t think Ontario has as much rigour as we do here in BC.
