The Forest Ministry has created an online page for feedback on a proposed forest tenure transfer in the North Thompson.
Mayor of Clearwater Merlin Blackwell says the web portal will allow people to give written comments about Canfor’s proposed $60-million-dollar forest tenure transfer to Interfor. Canfor shut down its sawmill in Vavenby last month.
“The trickle down for the public are things like recreation groups that did operations in Canfor tenure areas that fought for years with Canfor to come to agreements or truces on developments and logging practices. Tourism operators, backcountry rec site users. There’s so many different people who haven’t really considered the fact that they’re affected by this.”
The transfer would see 349,000 cubic metres of cutting rights and 21 road permits transferred to Interfor. The Forest Ministry will decide in the coming months to approve Canfor’s forest tenure transfer to Interfor.
The feedback page set up by the province can be found here.
