Three people were killed in separate crashes on B.C. highways over the long weekend, including one near Kamloops.
Cpl. Mike Halskov with RCMP Traffic Services says on Friday, a woman from the area was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Savona. He says details of the cause are sparse and the crash is still being investigated.
He says other fatal crashes happened Thursday along Highway 1 in the Fraser Valley, when a pedestrian was hit along the highway, and Friday on Highway 97 in the Cariboo. Halskov says a criminal investigation is going on after a head-on crash north of Williams Lake on Friday, which killed the passenger of a Ford F-350 after a Ford Excursion crossed the centre line. He says impairment is not a factor in that crash.
“It’s a busy time of year for those travelling around our province. Police are urging all drivers to drive defensively, obey speed limits, wear seat belts, drive sober and drive distraction free every time you get behind the wheel. And if you encounter a road closure or construction, please obey the direction of traffic control personnel, and monitor DriveBC for any updates.”
Halskov says B.C. Day long weekend is one of the busiest times of the year on highways and he says having three fatal crashes is not unusual.
