With Ribfest and Hot Night in the City happening downtown, all busses will be free to ride in Kamloops this weekend.
BC Transit spokesperson Johnathon Dyck says as far as he’s aware, this is the first time that service has been offered for a full weekend.
“We’ve partnered with the City of Kamloops, they’re the ones that make fare decisions. And this whole weekend we will be providing free fares around Kamloops. The big reason behind this is because you have two big events going on.”
“This is something that we work with our local government partners on to understand what’s happening in their communities and what type of promotion they would like to run throughout the year. And so this seemed like a great opportunity to be able to promote transit, as there will be a lot of people attending these events.”
Dyck also says passengers can use BC Transit’s live bus tracking app called NextRide to see exactly when busses are coming and how full they are. He says each bus is equipped with automatic passenger counters to track how people are on a bus.
