The fall out from the arrest of Huawei executive on a US extradition warrant has had far reaching affects through the agriculture industry.
From canola and soy to beef and pork, Canadian producers have been taking a huge hit as relations with China continue to deteriorate.
There’s a lot of questions but few answers as Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Agrifood, Conservative MP Luc Berthold points out. “We are asking two simple questions. Has the CFIA addressed the problem of counterfeit export certificates to the satisfaction of the Chinese government? If not when will this happen?”
“And the second, how much money is this trade barrier with the Chinese government costing Canada’s pork and beef sectors?”
Berthold says the Trudeau government insists this is not political, that it’s not an issue related to the detention of Meng Wanzhou so if not, what actions are the feds taking?
