There have been few subjects in Canada as polarizing as the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion and as it gets closer to being a reality, opponents are not about to go quietly into the night.
The project is still facing court challenges from various groups but now they’re looking at other venues to put a halt to the project, namely insurance companies.
Sven Biggs from Stand Dot Earth was on the NL Morning News, and says even though Trans Mountain says they have all their insurers in place, he’s optimistic the plan is working. “We’ve seen three major insurance companies around the globe officially adopt policies that they will no longer insure these kinds of projects and though the work we’re doing we’ve talked to several more that are likely to join them in the coming weeks.”
As far as court battles go, Biggs says they have every reason to believe that they will be successful again claiming the government has still failed to meet the basic measure of consultation for First Nations.”
