The Mayor of Kamloops says the city will do what it can to help ride sharing companies set up in the city.
Ken Christian was speaking after Lyft announced plans to expand into Vancouver by the end of this year.
Christian noted that Kamloops needs a ride sharing service as soon as possible.
“Whether it’s Lyft, whether it’s Uber, I don’t care,” he said. “There are a number of private operators running right now in Kamloops but none of the real legitimate ride share companies. I’m thinking that whoever wants to take part in this market, get here quick.”
Both Lyft and Vancouver-based Kater previously told Radio NL they intend to operate outside of Metro Vancouver as soon as possible.
“Part of our marketing just as with air services in Kamloops is to provide more options for Kamloops residents and that’s what we’re all about,” Christian added. “And anytime we have an inquiry from a ride sharing company, we are certainly anxious to talk to them and see how we can assist them.”
