The President of Kamloops Pride says he’s pleased to see the first rainbow crosswalk approved by council on a downtown city street.
Sam Numsen tells Radio NL they’ve been working on getting a crosswalk installed for the last three years.
“We’re pleased with the location right next to the museum and St. Andrew’s on the Square,” he said. “We think it’ll serve to really welcome folks nicely to downtown especially those who attend the Kamloops Farmers market. It’s certainly going to brighten up that stretch of Seymour and 2nd.”
Numsen says Kamloops Pride will contribute $1,500 of the $6,000 cost for the crosswalk.
“There are certainly limitations with some sections of streets whether that’s brick sections or certain types of crosswalks,” Numsen added. “We’re just happy to see a crosswalk go anywhere in the downtown core, 2nd and Seymour included. We certainly considered that part of downtown.”
When painted, this will be fifth rainbow crosswalk in Kamloops with one each at Lansdowne Village and at TRU, and the other two at the airport.
