The Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association is looking potentially install security cameras in downtown Kamloops.
Executive Director Carl DeSantis says safety is front and centre for many downtown businesses, and he suspects there will be support for the cameras.
He says the KCBIA isn’t sure what the system could look like, hence the request for proposal.
“If that means we’re going to get a similar camera system for all the businesses or multiple different types of cameras, I don’t know,” he said. “We’re looking for the experts to tell us about a system that will work for our downtown. Got a couple of weeks to go till we hear the results of the RFP and then we’ll just have to sit down and see what works best.”
DeSantis says the idea is to put these cameras on private property, but he’s open to working with the city to maybe put some on public property as well.
He notes the technology is not new, and it’s already in use in various communities including in Kamloops for various traffic cameras.
“We’re just looking to capitalize on all the things that those other organizations have learned and how we can use that to benefit our downtown business, “DeSantis added.
Some of the evaluation criteria will include the total price, quality of equipment, the bidder’s support and service, warranty, maintenance, and the bidder’s qualifications and experience.
The deadline for applications is 12 noon on September 3.
