The Ethics Commissioner’s report on the SNC Lavalin affair was released on Wednesday and politicians from all parties have something to say about it including the Liberal candidate for our region.
Mario Dion says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau broke ethics rules by putting pressure on former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould to stop prosecuting the Quebec engineering giant.
While the PM says he takes full responsibility, he’s refusing to say he’s sorry.
A poll on the NL News Facebook page asked, ‘Has the findings of the ethics commissioner’s report changed the way you will vote in the fall elections?’
Over three quarters of respondents said it would not change their minds.
Liberal candidate for the Kamloops-Thompson-Carriboo, Terry Lake weighed in. “The Prime Minister was fighting for thousands of jobs across Canada and admits that things could have be done differently.”
“Having said that, I think that people that have fixed sort of feelings around this issue, I don’t think it changed them at all. So, I think your poll is likely accurate in that people have basically made up their minds on this issue one way or the other.”
He says calls for the RCMP to investigate are hyperbole, noting it’s not a criminal offence.
Lake added with an election on the way, it’s not surprising to hear that kind of talk.
