A developer has big plans for a piece of land across the street from Thompson Rivers University.
A property at McGill Road and Hillside Drive is being asked to be re-zoned to allow for a six-storey residential building with commercial space on the ground floor, with details on a second building to come later.
Councillor Kathy Sinclair says now is a good to time to address pedestrian pathways in that corridor.
“The next stage of our active transportation plan includes a multi-use path around McGill, and that makes a lot sense. I’ve been hearing from people who work at the university and students as well that we have some nice multi-use paths, but that it sort of cuts off around the university,” Sinclair says.
“It’s about increasing that connectivity, so if we’re going to be developing in this area and putting in a sidewalk, is this a natural time to be putting in a multi-use path? But that sort of remains to be determined, and it goes beyond just the stretch of this one development.”
A public hearing on the plans will be coming at a later date.
