BC’s newest multi-millionaire plans to live like a king after winning the first $60-million Lotto Max jackpot at the end of last month.
Joseph Katalinic has been retired for twenty years, but the former commercial fisherman’s Quick Pick ticket matched all seven numbers on the July 26 draw, taking home the largest lottery prize in BC history.
“I scanned the ticket at Seafair Centre where I purchased the ticket,” he said, in a release. “thought to myself that it can’t be true… I was so excited, I had to go to two other locations to scan my ticket again just to make sure it was real. The first person I told was my daughter. She told my son-in-law, and then I told my youngest daughter.”
The Richmond man says he plans to take some family trips to Hawaii as well as visit the town in Europe where his parents were born.
“There was a lot of hugging and kissing, and a lot of emotions,” he noted.
Prior to Katalinic’s win, BCLC says there were three $50 million Lotto Max winners in the province. The largest Lotto Max prize ever won in Canada was $65 million in Montreal in June 2019.
