The City of Kamloops says a much needed road work project in Valleyview should be done sometime this fall.
Streets manager Glen Farrow says crews will be resurfacing Valleyview Drive, between Rose Hill Road and Owl Road, and improving intersections through that stretch.
The project started in early August, and Farrow says crews so far have been doing concrete work.
“The whole idea of that additional concrete work, what we’re doing is we’re putting in some curb extensions or bulb outs, so tightening the area for where vehicles go. The whole idea for that is traffic calming and improved pedestrian access through there,” Farrow says.
“They’ve been working through that for the couple weeks and will be for the coming week. Once we complete some of that concrete work we’ll be moving to the asphalt work. Which is the more obvious and noticeable work throughout the corridor, is milling off the existing asphalt and then putting in new material, so resurfacing essentially that section of work. Which is in desperate need of some repairs.”
Farrow says the $1.2-million-dollar project has been planned for several years, but the city had to wait for BC Hydro to finish a major project under the road.
“The last two years, Hydro’s been working right in the road, putting in new hydro vaults for further capacity for portions of Kamloops. So rather than putting in a brand new road and then having Hydro come in after and ripping it up and putting in these vaults, we wanted to ensure the vaults were in place in the road, in advance of us coming through and doing the complete resurfacing.”
City staff also point out bus stops along that section of Valleyview will be closed and temporarily relocated when paving work begins. Details can be found here.
