A recently refurbished commemorative plaque telling the story of Billy Miner was unveiled at the BC Wildlife Park today.
General Manager Glenn Grant says between the late 60’s and the mid 90’s, the sign used to be in front of the BC Wildlife Park.
“From there it went over to the travel centre, Billy Miner restaurant but it’s great to have it returned to the Wildlife Park,” he said. It will pique the interest of people to pull off the highway and learn a little bit about BC, and while they are here, they’ll come into the Wildlife Park and learn a little bit about BC’s wildlife.”
Kamloops South MLA and Former Transportation Minister Todd Stone began the project to refurbish a number of these plaques in 2016, and he was also on hand for the unveiling today.
Stone says it’s important that we continue to tell the stories of our past.
“You know good, bad, and ugly. We have a history and these signs play a really important role in telling those stories for our kids and our grand kids. I’m really pleased that our program appears to be full-steam ahead.”
