Crews continue to be at the scene of a brush fire in the Batchelor Heights area of Kamloops.
The calls came in around 6:20 p.m. yesterday, reporting a fire about 0.5 hectares in size. People in several Kamloops neighbourhoods were able to see smoke.
It’s been dubbed the Long Lake Fire by the BC Wildfire Service, Kamloops Fire Platoon Captain Darryl Cooper was asked about the status of the blaze.
“It’s under control,” Cooper said. “We still have a bush truck up there right now, looking for hot spots.”
Cooper added there was no threat to any structures in the area, and so there was no evacuations needed.
There were also six BC Wildfire Personnel responding yesterday when the fire broke out.

Fire crews have been called to a small grassfire near Batchelor Heights in Kamloops.
Kamloops Fire and Rescue was called to the scene just after 6:30 p.m., where a plume of smoke is visible from downtown.
BC Wildfire Information Officer Madison Smith tells NL News there are six BC Wildfire personnel on route to the scene of the fire, roughly four kilometres from Kamloops. She noted an air tanker is also being deployed to drop fire retardant.
Smith says the ‘Long Lake Fire’ is very visible from the city of Kamloops and it’s in the the grasslands and in open timber at this time.
NL News has reached out to KFR who have sent multiple resources to the scene, and is awaiting more information.
