When it comes to vaccination records, B.C.’s Education Minister says most parents and teachers won’t have to do anything as a new school year gets underway next week.
Rob Fleming says it’s because of a successful catch-up campaign over the summer to vaccinate kids against the measles.
“Most parents won’t receive any notification because their records are complete. But parents who’s records are either incomplete or require additional documentation of another kind, will be notified, and then they’ll have a variety of means to get their records up to date for their child or children that are in the school system.”
Fleming says the focus will largely be on kids from out of province who need to transfer records, and kids who do not have the necessary vaccinations.
“We have partnerships that we struck up with pharmacists across British Columbia. The various health authorities have also been running a number of clinics that were very successful,” Fleming added. “Records have been modernized and updated as well. The school system is going to play a role working with health authorities to do that.”
He says there were over 37,000 students who were vaccinated against the measles since the spring.
