The value of construction in Sun Peaks this year is approaching a record value set last year.
Mayor Al Raine says there seems to be a good balance of single-family homes, townhomes and condos being built in the village, with construction value for the year at $23.3 million at the end of July.
But, he doesn’t expect another construction record to be set in 2019.
“I don’t think so, and the reason why I’m saying that is of the $23 (million), $8.3 million is related to the Sun Peaks Centre, it’s a municipal project. I think we’ll be close to last year but I don’t think we’ll surpass the record,” Raine says.
“I wouldn’t call it a building boom, but there’s definitely a lot of construction activity going on. And there’s new homes being built, new townhouses being built. And sales are still pretty positive.”
Last year, the resort municipality of barely 600 residents saw more than $32 million dollars worth of building permits issued.
