With big changes coming to ICBC on September 1st, some people may feel they’re getting short changed but don’t know where to turn.
If you feel slighted by a public body like a crown corporation there is someone you can reach out to.
While speaking on the NL Morning News, BC Ombudsperson Jay Chalke told us what happens after they find that someone has been wronged. “Is it something we think could result in a finding that a public body has treated someone unfairly and if that’s the case, we go back to the public body and we say here’s what we found in our independent, impartial investigation. We’re neutral, we’re like an umpire, we call balls and strikes.”
Chalke added there’s two questions his office asks when presented with a case “Number one, is it a public body we have jurisdiction over? And number two, had the individual done what they can with the public body to resolve the problem?”
“And if the answer to both of those questions is yes, and that there’s still a problem then we’ll look into determining whether or not it’s something that merits an investigation.”
He told us what to do if we feel like we’ve been slighted and can’t resolve the situation on our own “So, if people have concerns about how they’re treated by any pubic body, any provincial or local public body, they can come to us and they can contact us at our toll free line at 1-800-567-3247 or online and we’ll look at it.”
