Kamloops Firefighters had to respond to two calls early this morning where railroad ties were on fire around 1 a.m.
The first was in the area of Collingwood Drive, near the Halston Connector, while the second was in the 2300 block of Ord Road.
Platoon Captain Darryl Cooper says crews first responded after callers reported the smell of burning wood near the Halston. KFR responded two with fire engines, one rescue truck, and one ladder apparatus.
“When Engine 2 arrived into the U-Haul parking lot, smoke and flames were visible but the fire was on the other side of the train tracks,” he said. “We had that many apparatus responding because we thought obviously it was a structure fire. Turned out to be railroad ties on fire.”
Cooper says CN crews were also on scene helping extinguish both fires as they’d been doing some grinding work on the tracks.
“They had it under control. CN said they had water to follow the grinding,” Cooper added.
He notes the two calls came a few hours after crews were kept busy because of a storm that rolled through the area.
