There’s a seventh candidate in the running for this fall’s Federal Election in the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo.
Kira Cheesborough will run for the Animal Protection Party of Canada (APPC).
The party – founded in 2006 – says it’s the only one to represent the interests of people and the environment through what it calls “compassionate politics”.
The party says Cheeseborough has made a name for herself in Kamloops and across B.C. by advocating for youth experiencing homelessness, mental health concerns, substance dependencies, and sexualized violence.
“I am beyond honoured and thrilled to announce my candidacy in the federal election on October 21st with the Animal Protection Party of Canada,” she said, on facebook. “This is a unique opportunity to shine a light on issues I am passionate about, which have been virtually ignored by the major parties. With my lived experience of issues that permeate equity seeking populations, I want to work alongside often unheard citizens to ensure the government can no longer hold them down or ignore their needs.”
Cheesborough joins incumbent Conservative Cathy McLeod, Liberal Terry Lake, Dock Currie of the NDP, Iain Currie for the Green Party, Ken Finlayson of the People’s Party, and the Communist Party of Canada’s Peter Kerek.
