A proposal has surfaced for a major hotel to move into Kamloops.
Mundi Hotels is looking to build a ‘Four Points by Sheraton’ hotel in Aberdeen on Rogers Way, which would have 99 units on five-storeys, and will include a 75-seat restaurant and underground parking.
Developer Ron Mundi says his company plans to invest $17 million dollars in the new hotel, which would be right next door to their 200-room Coast Hotel and Conference Centre.
“I purchased the Coast Hotel in 2011 and after that did lots of renovations. And for the last eight year our Coast property’s going really well; our numbers are good and we have good revenues there. And also, more than guest rooms, we’ve been working hard on our convention centre, and the growth has been really good the last three years,” Mundi tells NL News.
“So based on our convention centre growth, mostly when conferences are coming, I don’t enough guest rooms because all of them are kind of sold out. For that reason, in Four Point by Sheraton, first of all that’s a good brand second, it’s easy to fill with overflow on our property.”
Kamloops city council will be asked tomorrow to approve a development permit for the hotel to be built.
There is one Four Points by Sheraton hotel already in Kamloops, at 1175 Rogers Way under different ownership.
