Today marks the 18th anniversary of the terror attacks on the United States.
Almost 3,000 people lost their lives that day.
18 years later, the financial toll is just staggering.
From losses in the stock market to impending wars in the Middle East, the cost in the aftermath of 9-11 has been unimaginable.
The host of NL’s Money Talks, Michael Campbell was on the NL Morning News today and reminded us of the cost of the War on Terror alone. “If you want to include the Afghan war, I mean that was one of the immediate responses was we’re going to go into Afghanistan and get the Taliban. Well, that was over 400 billion dollars if you throw in the Iraq war after was eight hundred billion dollars.”
Campbell pointed out there were new costs associated with the attacks, like the creation the Department Homeland Security. “Well, the New York Times estimates they spent about six hundred billion dollars on Homeland Security. That specific kind of body didn’t exist.”
As to how much the tab is so far, Campbell says, “You know the estimates about the total cost of all of this was in the three trillion dollar range and you can just feel the ripple effects in so many different ways.”
