The new anchor store at the Aberdeen Mall in Kamloops is on track to open sometime next spring.
The mall’s general manager Sandra Neufeld tells Radio NL that Marshalls will be one of at least four tenants on the upper level where Sears used to be.
“In addition to a building permit for Marshalls, we have some other construction going on at that end of the mall. We’re adding a new passenger elevator and a new staircase that will allow easy access down to the food court from that side of the mall. Everything is on track and we hope to be able to unveil all of it when Marshalls opens in the spring.”
Neufeld also says there will be two tenants in the downstairs floor space where Sears was, as well as additional space added on to the food court.
She says the mall’s food court has been in line for a face lift for several years, which she says will be happening after the holiday season in January and February.
“The media speculation around Sears Canada and whether or not they would be able to continue had been in the media and speculated about for quite some time, and so we have always just been standing by waiting to see if Sears would continue on… Although we were sad to Sears go because it was a great retailer.”
Sears took up 102,000 square feet of space in the mall before it closed down in October of 2017.
