A Kamloops councillor is pleased to hear three ride-hailing companies are expected to hit the streets here this year.
Dale Bass says ride-hailing would particularly benefit young people going out at night who are trying to get a ride home.
“I think the thing I hear the most complaints about would be basically transit and trying to get a cab at night.”
Bass was asked about how licensing would happen for those companies – following the mayor of Surrey saying he has the ability to stop ride-hailing.
“We haven’t actually talked about it at council yet, but there will be a process in place. The government has set out some regulations and some guidelines, and once it starts to come here I’m sure it will flow through city hall the way it’s supposed to.”
Bass also says there has been concerns about ride-hailing brought to council from people in the local taxi industry.
All of Kater, TappCar and U-Ride have applied to the Passenger Transportation Board for a ride-hailing license for the zone that includes Kamloops, and all expect to be on the road before the end of 2019.
